Tutorial: Coloring in Crow Lineart

Now there is a trick to coloring in lineart! The trick is your magic wand settings so please be sure to pay close attention to this tutorial so that are sure that you are coloring in crow completely and not leaving any pieces missing!

Now first thing we want to do is click on our magic wand and use the settings below:

Now using our magic wand click on the inside of our head and body so that we have the marching ants going around them like shown below:

Now let’s make a new layer this will be our colored in body and head layer so go to LAYERS to NEW RASTER LAYER

Now we want to  flood fill this with our color the color we are using is #262222 it is a dark grey color as shown below:

Now at this point what I do to make sure that the color goes all the way to the edges is I click on my paint brush and I use the following settings:

Size 150

Hardness 100

Step 32

Density 100

Thichness 100

Rotation 0

Opacity 100

Now using your paint brush color all around the edges of the selected head and body this will ensure that ALL of the head and body are colored in and that we didn’t miss any areas!

Ok now we want to add our shadowing real quick so to do this go to EFFECTS to 3D EFFECTS to CUTOUT and use these settings: (Now on the colored box on the right that is the color we used on the body and head #262222 and then the color box on the left is BLACK #000000)

Now that we have that shaded go to menu and click on SELECTIONS and then SELECTIONS NONE. Now in our layer palette we have two layers our black colored head and body and then the lineart section. Using your mouse take the top layer the colored in body and move it UNDER the lineart. You always take the colored in sections and move them UNDER the lineart so that your image will have clean sharp lines! Now click on the lineart layer and taking your magic wand lets click on the inside of the wings and feathers as shown below:

Now we want to repeat out steps up above! First go to LAYERS to NEW RASTER LAYER this will be our colored in feathers and wings. Now using our flood fill tool again flood fill those areas and then using your paint brush color around the edges really good! Once you are done with that go back to EFFECTS to 3D EFFECTS to CUTOUT and use the same settings as above. Once you have your shading done please go to Selections to select none. Using your mouse in the layer palette move this layer down below the lineart just like we did above. Now click on your lineart layer again to make it active and this time with our magic wand we will click on the inside of the beak and legs to make them active as shown below:

Now go to Layers and click on NEW RASTER LAYER and this will be our beak and leg color! Now click on your flood fill tool and the color we want in our materials palette for the foreground is #f3b03b this is a nice orange color. Flood fill this and then use your paint brush to get ALL the edges. Now let’s add our shading please go to EFFECTS to 3D EFFECTS to CUTOUT and use the settings below with our Foreground color on the right being #f3b03b and our shading color on the right being #c46714.

Now go to Select to Select none and then move this layer down below our lineart! Now click on our lineart layer and using your magic wand click on the inside of the nostrils and then add a new layer. Now using your flood fill tool we want to flood fill these nostrils with black and use your paint brush to get all the edges. Now go to select to select none and push this layer under our lineart layer!! WE ARE ALMOST DONE!! Now go to Layers to Layers Merge and click on Merge Visible. Now we have our image saved as one layer and we can save it in a PNG format
